Artificial Grass Maintenance

Learn how to properly care for your synthetic turf to keep it looking lush and beautiful for years to come.

One of the greatest benefits of installing artificial grass at your home or business is that, unlike natural turf, artificial grass requires significantly less maintenance. It does require a little effort, however, in order to maximize its lifespan. If you truly want to get the most out of your synthetic turf, proper maintenance is going to be the key and SYNLawn can help. Unlike natural grass, artificial turf does not need to be watered, mowed, weeded, or fertilized in order to stay lush and green all year long, but like any product, it can wear over time and requires proper care to enjoy its full lifespan.

The first thing to do is to make sure that you have the proper tools to maintain your lawn. Fortunately, you do not need many, and the ones you do need are inexpensive and easy to acquire. You might already have them, in fact. A rake, a garden hose and a leaf blower are all you really need to perform maintenance on your synthetic turf. A stiff brush will also be useful, so long as the bristles are not metal, which can potentially damage the turf fibers. Even if you find you lack one or more of these items, all of them are easy to find at a local hardware store.

In order to get the most out of your artificial grass, remember these simple maintenance tips:

  1. Rinse your turf off with a hose regularly to get rid of any loose debris, pet waste or stickiness. For particularly troublesome spots, use a mixture of water and vinegar or mild detergent.
  2. Brush frequently to keep the artificial grass blades standing upright with your rake or stiff, non-metal brush. This will help the synthetic fibers stand up straight and mimic natural grass.
  3. Eliminate unpleasant odors with an enzyme cleaner or a mixture of vinegar and water. Although your synthetic turf will not turn brown, you still want to get rid of unpleasant odors for obvious reasons.
  4. If you have children or pets, you will want to clean your turf more often, but otherwise you should clean your artificial grass at least once every three months to avoid the buildup of debris, dirt and dust.
